From Haven to Home and Children of Immigrants
Part 1:
The purpose of going to this museum was to learn about Jews in America, and how they made lives in America, and dealt with the worlds' events. I, honetsly, learned a lot about a couple different things. One thing was that I learned about how the Jews came to America and how they hard they had it at first. Another thing is I learned that a lot of different people that I didn't know where Jewish. I had no idea that some people, like Jerry Seinfeld and Dr. Suess were Jewish. I thought that was really interesting. There were many, many Jews that participated in the making of America’s pup culture today. They contributed in forms of poems, being actors, playwrights, and developing modern-day technology. Also, I learned that Dr. Seuss’ real name was Theodor Geisel, and that his wife’s name was Audrey Geisel. I think people put this exhibit together because they wanted more people to understand what life was like for Jews through the ages. I really liked the wall, Judaism, American Style. I learned a lot on this wall, like how in earl America, Jews lived in these communities called ‘synagogue communities’, little places that provided for both the member’s spiritual and ritual needs. Those communities wore away when more Jewish immigrants came to America decided to worship in the ways of their old countries. Clearly, I learned a lot in this trip, and I’m glad I went!
Part 2:
I chose the picture of a woman in a Santa Lucia outfit on for the Swedish Christmas display. I thought it was really interesting because I have actaully learned about that prior to this trip. I was in a play that involved the Swedish-American Christmas, and I learned a lot about this, and I thought it was really interesting to see something like whatI learned. The picture was taken in Chicago in 1997.
The quote I chose went like this:
"I believe as an indivuidual, I can help America acheice goals. I remember last year I helped collect canned foods for the soup kitchen. Also, I raised money when the Twin Towers fell. I believe things like his may seem little, but can mount to larger and bigger things."
~Zainab Sozzer, Pakistan
I liked this quote because I, myself, have done things like this. I can really relate to what this guy is saying because my mom has really planted that whole seed in my head. Ever since I was young, she's been teaching me that anything I contribute can amount to greater things.
