1. I was so scared. Well, not really scared, but really really interested in what he was saying. I got really scared at the part when he described what happened to Romek. I couldn't bear it- i wanted to plug my ears and go somewhere else, but i knew that i needed to hear it. I cried a lot, and I know that a lot of other people did too.

2. David was working for the Russian Partisans to sabotage the German railroad tracks. I think Romek was proud of him because he was helping to stop the Germans from winning the war. Also, it would take some courage to do what he did. Also, I think that it would take some serious smarts to survive in the fir the way David did.

3. I think that they knew that David was too young to know anything about the underground workings. I think they thought that he wouldn't be worth anything dead, and it wouldn't be any good to torture or kill him, so they left him be. Also, david suffered enough from watching his brother be tortured to death.
