Aztec Murals Reflection

Project Reflection
Name: Carly
Project Title: Aztec Mural Project
Letter: B

Purpose:

The purpose of this project was to learn about the Aztecs. In order to learn about the people of Mexico Valley, we created murals showing something of the Aztec culture. My group decided to show all the different warriors and what they wear. We have nine different people and they are all wearing something different. But before we could create a mural, we had to learn more about what we were going to paint. We went around to different papers and wrote down key things about the certain subject. We learned about marriage, food, Gods, weaving, crime and punishment, sacrifices, motherhood, family life, recreation, warfare, education, clothing, markets, and social classes. Our group wanted to make our mural underneath the white board, so we did all the different warriors.

What I Learned:

In this project, I learned a lot about Aztecs. I learned about how they started and how they had to find a symbol of an eagle with a snake in its mouth that was sent by the Gods before they could start building their great empire. The Aztecs had some trouble getting started in the building of their city. They were overpowered a few times before they actually settled in the Valley of Mexico. I also learned about their daily lives, like what they did and how they did it.

Reflection:

I liked this project because it was basically only painting. Painting is really fun for me. I like it because its really artistic and it really beats typing and dealing with computers that loose your work all the time. I feel like I could've spent more time on the Artists' Statement. We didn't do a fantastic job on it and I think we could've done a lot better. Next time, I would start on our mural earlier because we had a hard time getting started. But once we were set on a track, we went really fast.
Work Habits:
In this project, I was the 'Emperor', so I was basically in charge of making sure that the group was on track, on topic, and doing the right stuff. I had difficulty writing the Artists' Statement because it was being done at the last minute. The whole group was sort of throwing our ideas of what to write and it was hard to put it all together. Next time, I should have written it earlier and it might've been a lot better.
Artifacts:
I'm going to put this reflection on my blog and I'll put a picture of our mural onto my DP.
