Lord of the Flies: Journal #5

The Night Meeting
Ralph called a meeting tonight. He was so upset with everything that was going on, what with the 'beastie', and the huts not being built, and us hunters always hunting and not tending to the fire. He blew the conch, and once everyone was gathered, he started. Using the right decorum, he started to give an effigy of what was going on on the island presently. He started discursive interminably about all these new and old rules that were mandatory to be followed, it was completely ludicrous. Tempestuously, some of the boys were not paying any attention, but Ralph didn't notice. The rules included that we were not to be taken short anywhere but rocks on the beach, where it would be washed away with the tide.
Ralph was overreacting to all of the mayhem. He was acting like one ship that we lost was going to kill us all! Absolutely absurd. He was totally unaware that the Pacific Ocean was a very common place for large ships to be. I was surprised at his immediate and overbearingly annoying reaction.
Then, at the meeting, he brought up the 'beastie'. That's when things got a little wild. No, it got really wild. By then, the sun had completely set, so it was very dark, and we could really only hear each other, but not know what they were doing. All the little ones at the meeting got real spooked and they were all scared whenever someone said 'beastie'. Someone must have thought the beastie was a ghost, and everyone was afraid that the ghost would come get them or something. Totally and completely insane and crazy and stupid. These people were all afraid of NOTHING! I said it a million times, that I'd searched the island, high and low, for any kind of food or anything else.
Then Percival had to speak up. He just had to say that the stupid beastie came out of the water. I don't think that anyone's going in the water any time soon...
