OP #3

3. WRITE YOUR OWN: Ask a "Why" question of your group about a character or event in the book. It should be a discussion question, not a reading comprehension question. It should be something people in your group may

1a. They've got to leave because it's not safe in Korea. Japan will be a lot safer, and more plentiful in vital things that they need, like food, water, clothes, and safety. Also, the train station is terribly unsafe because it is so packed with people. You could be easily raped, catch a terrible sickness, and have your things stolen. Ko,Yoko, and their mother had to go through trash cans for food.

1b. I think they had to leave Hideyo behind. If they didn't, they would've been long dead by now because Hideyo described his house demolished by the Koreans. I think that I would've left a note saying that they would be waiting somewhere secret for him. And that they would wait there until he got there.

2. Why do you think the girls were so emotional when they left Korea? Why did the mother and Ko start to cry when the boat set sail?
2Answer. I think that the girls were really sad because they were really reflecting on their journey. They had been through so much together and they had so much pain and misery that it was really hard to reflect on it. And the fact that they were going to a better place.

1a i think that it is easy to get their things stolen from them and they could geet raped easily.

1b I think that did the right thing when they left Hideo behind because, the Koreans would have found them and killed them. If they waited for him and stayed they would not be here right now. Or they would get raped by the soldiers.

2 I think they got emotional because they missed their home that they grew up in their whole life. I also think that they were crying because they were thinking about Hideo and there father and worring if they would ever see them again.

#1a I agree with you about how they had to leave Korea and how Japan was more safe for Yoko's family.

#1b I agree that Yoko's family had to leave Hideyo and head to Seoul. If they did't they probably could have got killed.

#2 I think that they were crying because they felt bad for leaving Hideyo and all there belongings so quickly.
